French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne resigned Monday after political turmoil over a new immigration law, allowing President Emmanuel Macron to appoint a new government and seek fresh momentum. Borne's resignation followed contentious immigration legislation aimed at strengthening deportation measures. Macron's centrist alliance passed the law by aligning with the conservative Republicans party, raising concerns about the government's ability to pass future major bills. Macron's term ends in 2027, preventing him from running again.

Gabriel Attal is named France’s youngest-ever Prime Minister on January 9, as President Emmanuel Macron seeks a fresh start amid growing far-right political pressure. His appointment follows the resignation of Elisabeth Borne on January 8, after political turmoil over an immigration law enhancing the government's deportation powers.

Today, the Commission approved the listing and trading of several spot bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETP) shares. Historically, the Commission disapproved more than 20 similar filings, including one from Grayscale. However, a recent court ruling vacated the disapproval of Grayscale's filing, prompting the Commission to reconsider. The approval is specific to ETPs holding bitcoin and does not imply a stance on other crypto assets or their compliance with federal securities laws.

Additionally, the UK pledges £2.5 billion in military aid for Ukraine in 2024/25 and promises swift support if Russia attacks again.

The Maldives has requested India to withdraw its troops by March 15, further straining bilateral relations. President Mohamed Muizzu, elected last year, campaigned to end the Maldives' "India first" policy amid regional competition between New Delhi and Beijing. Around 80 Indian soldiers stationed in the Maldives support military equipment and humanitarian activities. In talks at the foreign ministry, Muizzu's delegation proposed the troop withdrawal, with ongoing discussions confirmed by Policy Director Ahmed Nazim.
