Australia starts deporting non-citizens to Nauru...
Australia has begun deporting hundreds of non-citizens to Nauru under a bilateral agreement in which Canberra will pay A$2.5 billion (US$1.6 billion) over 30 years for Nauru to issue visas to deported individuals. The deal revives Australia’s offshore processing model. Nauru, the world’s third-smallest nation, suffers from severe phosphate pollution and one of the highest rates of type 2 diabetes globally.
