The European Commission has fined Google €2.95 billion for abusing its dominance in ad technology by self-preferencing its AdX exchange while controlling both publisher ad servers and ad-buying tools. Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera demanded Google propose remedies within 60 days or face stronger sanctions. Google called the fine “unjustified,” warning reforms could hurt European businesses. The ruling, delayed to avoid U.S. backlash, adds strain to already tense EU–US trade relations following a deal setting 15% tariffs on EU goods but leaving auto tariffs unresolved.
