The European citizens’ initiative “My Voice, My Choice” has submitted over 1 million signatures to the European Commission, urging the creation of an EU funding mechanism to make abortion more accessible. While 25 EU states allow voluntary termination, rules vary widely—from 10 weeks in Portugal and Croatia to 24 in the Netherlands. Poland and Malta retain highly restrictive laws. The Commission stressed the petition does not establish a European right to abortion and has until March to decide whether to act. Coordinator Nika Kovač highlighted that 20 million women in Europe lack safe access, leading to preventable deaths.
