Scientists have uncovered what is believed to be the world's oldest artwork in an Indonesian cave on Sulawesi, dated to around 51,200 years ago. This painting, depicting three people around a large red pig, suggests that cave art did not first emerge in Europe. The discovery, detailed in a study published in Nature, represents the oldest known evidence of storytelling. The artwork, found in Leang Karampuang cave, is in poor condition.

The military leaders of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger sign a confederation treaty in Niamey, enhancing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) mutual defense pact. Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tchiani, Burkinabè President Ibrahim Traoré, and Malian President Assimi Goïta praise the treaty as a step towards greater integration, rejecting ECOWAS and accusing it of foreign influence. This marks their first joint summit since their respective coups.
