A panel of experts advising the FDA on the use of the psychedelic MDMA for PTSD concluded on Tuesday that current evidence does not demonstrate the drug's effectiveness or that its benefits outweigh its risks. This decision is a significant setback for proponents and sponsor Lykos Therapeutics, potentially jeopardizing FDA approval. The panel voted 9-2 against the effectiveness of MDMA combined with talk therapy and 10-1 against its benefits outweighing risks. Concerns were raised about data gaps, potential abuse, and the therapy's psychological approach. Despite the panel's advice, the FDA is not obligated to follow their recommendation.

On Thursday, Spain became the first European country to request permission from a United Nations court to join South Africa's case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza. South Africa filed the case with the International Court of Justice last year, alleging that Israel's military actions violated the genocide convention. The court has ordered Israel to stop its offensive in Rafah, but Israel has not complied. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared Spain's commitment to being on "the right side of history." Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua, Libya, and the Palestinians are also seeking approval to join the case.

South Korea will resume propaganda broadcasts against North Korea for the first time in six years, responding to Pyongyang's recent campaign of sending rubbish-filled balloons across the border. Over 300 North Korean balloons were detected over the weekend, with around 80 landing in South Korea. North Korea has not yet responded, but it considers such broadcasts an act of war and has previously threatened to destroy them. South Korea's military reported no hazardous materials in the balloons and warned the public to avoid them. The broadcasts follow North Korea's retaliation for anti-regime leaflets sent from the South.
