With climate change activists celebrating, The UK's last coal power plant, located at Ratcliffe-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire, will cease operations on Monday, ending 57 years of electricity generation. This closure aligns with the government's policy to phase out coal power by 2025, marking the end of Britain's 142-year reliance on coal energy, which began with the Holborn Viaduct power station in 1882.

With over 180 estimated projectiles, Iran launched dozens of missiles at Israel today, claiming it was a retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The attack, caused one death and several injuries in Israel. While many missiles were intercepted, some landed in Israel and the West Bank. The U.S. confirmed the attack was “effectively defeated,” but the situation heightened concerns of escalating conflict. Israel, already at war with Hamas, now faces the possibility of further escalation with Iran and Hezbollah, with Prime Minister Netanyahu promising retaliation.

More than 700,000 people are now displaced in Haiti, with over half being children, due to increasing gang violence, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The report shows a 22% rise in displacement since June, with over 110,000 people fleeing their homes in the past seven months, especially in areas like Gressier. Haiti has long struggled with instability, but violence intensified in February with attacks on state institutions. This led to the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry and the deployment of a UN-backed, Kenya-led security force.

The UK has agreed to hand over the Chagos Islands, or Mauritius has been successful to take it back,which is including the strategically significant Diego Garcia, to Mauritius after more than 50 years of sovereignty. This historic decision follows years of negotiations. While the US-UK military base on Diego Garcia will remain, the deal allows Mauritius to resettle other parts of the Chagos Islands, though not Diego Garcia. The treaty will include financial support and infrastructure investment for Mauritius. The Chagos Islanders have mixed reactions, with some hopeful for resettlement and others feeling excluded from the decision-making process.
