North Macedonia announces it will abolish all import tariffs on U.S. goods, aiming to secure a reciprocal zero-tariff trade deal with the Trump administration. The move follows a 33% U.S. tariff on North Macedonian exports. Finance Minister Kochoska says it signals goodwill for mutual trade benefits. With bilateral trade at $314 million last year, officials hope this policy, pending parliamentary approval, will boost economic growth and lead to a broader free-trade agreement.

The United Nations General Assembly elects Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, and Liberia to the U.N. Security Council for two-year terms starting January 1, 2026. These countries replace Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guyana, and Slovenia. Each received over two-thirds of member votes, with Bahrain topping at 186. Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is also elected as General Assembly president for its 80th session starting in September.

Google partners with Chile to build the Humboldt Cable, the first trans-Pacific submarine fiber optic cable linking South America with Asia and Oceania. Chad suspends all visas for U.S. citizens in response to President Donald Trump's expanded travel ban, which includes Chad and six other African nations.
