Australia has officially included YouTube in its upcoming social media ban for children under 16, reversing an earlier exemption. Starting in December, teens will be allowed to view videos but barred from creating accounts, uploading content, or interacting on the platform. The move follows concerns raised by the eSafety Commissioner, who cited YouTube as a leading source of harmful content for youths aged 10–15. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the decision, saying it supports parents and addresses social harm. YouTube, owned by Google, says it will review its options and continue discussions with the government.

The Vatican has struck a landmark deal with Italy to develop a 430-hectare solar farm at Santa Maria Galeria, aiming to become the world’s first carbon-neutral state. The project, expected to cost under €100 million, will meet the Vatican’s energy needs while preserving agricultural use and minimizing environmental impact. Italy will count the project toward EU clean energy targets, and any excess power will go to local communities. The Vatican will be exempt from import taxes on solar panels but won’t receive standard Italian solar incentives. Contracts may open for bids once Italy’s parliament approves the plan.

The U.S. is set to impose sweeping new tariffs on exports from dozens of countries starting August 7, following President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at addressing trade deficits and alleged unfair practices. While some countries, like the EU, secured reduced tariffs—15% after a deal with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—others face steep hikes. Brazil will face 50% tariffs, Canada 35% (up from 25% due to fentanyl concerns), Switzerland 39%, India 25%, and Taiwan 20%. Many nations now face economic uncertainty as negotiations remain unresolved.
